Description

Spam Musubi is a savory rice sandwich from Hawaiian cuisine, combining flavors of sweet, salty, and umami with a delightful crunch from nori.


Ingredients

  • 1 can Spam
  • 2 cups sushi rice
  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 1/3 cup rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • Nori seaweed sheets
  • Soy sauce (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Wash the rice: Rinse sushi rice under cold water until excess starch is removed.
  2. Cook the rice: Cook in a rice cooker or pot with 2 ½ cups of water until absorbed.
  3. Prepare the seasoning: Mix rice vinegar, sugar, and salt in a bowl until dissolved.
  4. Flavor the rice: Pour the mixture over warm rice and fold gently.
  5. Slice the Spam: Cut Spam into slices and pan-fry until golden brown.
  6. Shape the musubi: On a nori sheet, layer seasoned rice, Spam, and more rice; wrap tightly.
  7. Cut into pieces: Use a sharp knife to slice musubi and serve with soy sauce.
